Day 207

Day 207

E had an MRI yesterday to look at the tumour in his liver.  With the last round of chemo the tumour shrank about 4mm.  It's not small enough yet for surgery but it's encouraging that the chemo worked.  He had trouble with nausea this time, the zofran didn't help much.  He was put on ativan instead and it seemed to help him.  He slept almost all day yesterday from it.  He's having a much better day today than he did yesterday.

Day 205

Day 205

Eli's having a rough round of chemo this time.  He was up sick all night and he spent most of the day getting sick.  His liver enzymes and AFP levels are still quite high as they were right before the round started.  Oncology believes the mass in Eli's liver is a tumour, not related to the leukemia, but possibly to the Wilms, or some other type of childhood cancer.  The tumour is too close to being inoperable at the moment to try surgery, it takes up too much of his liver.  His chemo drugs have changed and he's back on intense chemo in hopes of shrinking the tumour down to being more safely operable.  We're hoping that by the end of this round or next it will shrink down and it can be removed and typed.  We're still trying to read as much as we can but I still don't know much about what it might be.  But we do know that oncology believes the tumour is what has caused his jaundice and high AFP levels.

Day 201

Eli started chemo again yesterday morning and so far he's doing well with it.  He had a CT scan yesterday morning to look at his liver and his remaining kidney.  His kidney looks good and it doesn't look like the chemo has done damage to it.  He's more jaundiced than he was last week and his AFP levels are higher and his liver enzymes are elevated too so his oncologist ordered the CT.  There's a small mass in the liver but we don't know what it is yet.  Keeping a close eye on him now and doing as we seem to always do... wait.

Day 191

Day 191

It's been pretty crazy around our house for the last couple weeks, haven't had a chance to come give an Eli update.  Eli tolerated his last round of chemo very well.  He was able to come home last Wednesday.  He seems to be feeling really well and he's an active, happy little 2 year old.  He had an appointment on Tuesday and mostly looked good.  Dana was worried because she thinks his skin looked a little more orangy or yellow than it normally does.  I can't tell the difference, I'm colour blind.  His doctor was a little bit concerned but wanted to see him back today.  He didn't see any changes in Eli today from Tuesday.  Eli's AFP level is still slightly elevated from what it should be but it hasn't risen any from the last time it was checked.  He was measured and weighed today and he's 94cm and 14kg.  His next clinic appointment is on Monday morning.

Day 175

Day 175

Quick update today.  Eli has been feeling pretty well today.  He's been up playing in the child life play room today and he isn't feeling too horribly sick from this round.  Momma stayed with him over night and for the morning before she had to go to work.  He's gotten to know my dad pretty well over the past couple days and he even let my dad hold him while his nurse took his blood pressure.

We talked to his oncologist about the slightly elevated AFP levels from the last blood draw and he thinks it isn't something to worry about right now.  Because of his history of Wilms they're going to look closer at his AFP levels at the next blood draw but for now, nothing to be concerned about.
